Shrugging off that bit of shiftiness, I returned to school to have a nice day of getting good grades. My old friend Hank, who knew ROM hacking quite well, raised his hand and said "I can make you a good one!" Curious, I asked "What do you plan on making?" To which he smirked and said "I'll surprise you." running off to his hacking laptop at home. Since we talked about pretty much every good Sonic hack we knew about, my friends just shrugged off the question. My friends and I were talking about our favorite ROM hacks, as we do, when I brought up Sonic. My experience began at recess one day on our school track. Enough rambling, let's actually get to talking about it. I wish the one I played was by Cinossu, he would've made it more. My experience with horror-based ROM hacks beyond that is very small, though. Also, I guess I'm a sucker for Sonic.exe, haha. There's just something about the fact that there's a timer placed on Sonic 1, in which everything goes right to hell, that really gets to me. My favorite of these challenge hacks would be An Ordinary Sonic Rom Hack by Cinossu.
My favorite ROM hacks are the challenging type, the kind of difficulty that feels fun and fulfilling when you succeed. Be it in challenge, design, or in anything new they add to the source material. My name is Josh, and I love ROM hacks and the fun they can provide.
